Sandler, Travis & Rosenberg is deeply saddened to bid farewell to Randy Ferguson, a treasured member of ST&R and the trade community, whose vibrant spirit and diverse interests enriched our work and lives for four decades. Randy passed away peacefully at home on Monday.
Randy’s journey as a lawyer was marked not only by his profound knowledge, but also by his unwavering dedication to his colleagues and clients. Since 1976, he concentrated his practice on customs and international trade law and was recognized nationally for his expertise in representing companies in a wide range of import- and export-related matters. He was best known for his representation, administratively and judicially, of the surety companies that underwrite the customs bonds securing the activities of importers, brokers, carriers, and other intermediaries.
Beyond his legal career, he was a quintessential Californian and a hardworking, gracious, and generous family man. An avid surfer, he was in the water every morning the surf forecast was good. An accomplished sailor, he participated in the America’s Cup. Working with his family’s vineyard in Napa Valley, he was known as quite the sommelier.
As we reflect on Randy’s life, we remember not only his professional achievements but also the warmth, kindness, and good-natured humor he shared with everyone he encountered. His memory will continue to inspire us to embrace life's adventures with the same fervor and curiosity that he did. Randy’s presence among us will be sorely missed, but his legacy as a person and professional will endure for years to come.
Donation and funeral information as well as administrative matters can be addressed with Lenny Feldman, Larry Ordet, or Lee Sandler.
