Background

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a final rule that, effective Jan. 17, 2025, will implement the following measures to address the unreasonable risk of injury to health presented by carbon tetrachloride.

- require a workplace chemical protection program for specified occupational conditions of use, including import, domestic manufacture, recycling, disposal, etc.

- prohibit the manufacture (including import), processing, distribution in commerce, and industrial/commercial use of CTC for conditions of use where information indicates use of CTC has ceased

- require manufacturers (including importers), processors, and distributors to provide downstream notification of applicable requirements
